Our story

From site carpenter to fire door specialists

Daniel Storr started on the tools as a carpenter in 2003. The company came later — incorporated in 2019 as Future Proof Builders, a home-improvements firm serving Bournemouth, Poole and the surrounding area.

The turn came in 2024. Changes to fire safety regulation — and to how it was being interpreted and enforced — brought a steady flow of fire door work. And with it came an uncomfortable discovery: a great deal of fire safety work carried out by general tradesmen, in good faith, simply wasn’t compliant.

Fire doors aren’t general carpentry — they’re a life-safety system governed by overlapping legislation, standards and guidance that often appear to conflict. Knowing how to interpret them is the job. So the company specialised, became South Coast Fire Doors, and has been building that dedicated knowledge every day since.

It’s why we take the time to explain everything and answer your questions in simple English, without the jargon. Our inspection reports are written to be understood — and every job is photographed, measured and recorded, so you hold clear evidence for your records, not just our word.

“I built this company on two simple rules. Treat others as you’d like to be treated — and if I wouldn’t accept it myself, it isn’t good enough for any of my clients.”
— Daniel Storr, Founder & Managing Director

How we work

Four commitments, every job

Repair first

If a door can be repaired, we say so. Remediation is often the right answer — and considerably cheaper than replacement. You get our recommendation and the reasoning; the decision stays yours.

Everything evidenced

Every inspection and every repair is photographed, measured and recorded. What you get isn’t just a tidy door — it’s the documentation a responsible person needs to hold.

Plain English

The regulations, standards and guidance around fire doors frequently conflict. We explain what applies to your building and answer every question without the jargon.

Fair, transparent pricing

Itemised quotes with no surprises, and quality components that are tried, tested and built to last. If something doesn’t need doing, it won’t be on the quote.
