Two blue "fire door keep shut" signs fixed to a timber fire door

How do I know if my door is a fire door?

Fire doors are usually thicker and heavier than standard internal doors (typically 44mm+). Check the top or side edge for a certification label or coloured plug, and look for intumescent seals in the frame or door edge. If you’re unsure, our inspection tells you exactly what you have and whether it still performs as it should.

Why do I need my fire doors inspected?

Fire doors are a legal requirement in many buildings, and they only work when someone installs and maintains them correctly. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 — and the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 for many blocks of flats — puts the duty on the responsible person to keep fire doors fit for purpose. A professional inspection gives you documented proof of compliance and flags anything that needs fixing.

How often should fire doors be inspected?

Check communal fire doors in higher-risk residential buildings at least every three months, and flat entrance doors annually. For other premises, we recommend an inspection at least once a year. We’ll advise on the right schedule for your building.

What does an inspection involve?

We check every element that affects performance: the door leaf, frame, gaps and clearances, intumescent and smoke seals, hinges, self-closing devices, glazing, and signage. You get a clear report showing each door’s condition and any remedial work it needs.

What happens if a door fails the inspection?

We explain exactly what’s wrong and quote you for the remedial work. We can repair many issues — worn seals, faulty closers, incorrect gaps — without replacing the whole door, which keeps your costs down.

Do you repair and replace doors, or just inspect?

Both. We carry out the full range of remedial work our inspections identify, from adjusting and repairing existing doors to supplying and fitting new certified fire doors where you need them.

Are your inspections certified?

Yes — our inspections are carried out to recognised industry standards and you receive documentation you can present to your fire risk assessor, insurer, or enforcing authority.
