A certified door is only as good as its installation

A fire doorset earns its rating in a test furnace. However, it only performs in your building if you fit it the way that test assumed. Frame fixings, gap tolerances, intumescent protection, and the right hinges, closer and hardware all need fitting to the manufacturer’s instructions. In short, fire door installation is where you keep or lose certification.

We supply and fit certified FD30 and FD60 doorsets for flat entrances, communal areas and commercial buildings. We also offer security and acoustic options where the building calls for them. Where replacement is not actually necessary, we will tell you. If repair is the better option, our survey says so and the quote reflects it.

Our installation work carries UKFDT approval. It is also currently under independent assessment for Bluesky third-party certification, a UKAS-accredited scheme. Every installation comes with a completion certificate, photographs and a door schedule. That is evidence for your file, not just a fitted door.

Fire door installation FAQs

Straight answers to the questions responsible persons, landlords and managing agents ask us most about installing fire doors.

Do you supply and install certified fire doorsets?

Yes. We supply and install complete certified fire doorsets, and we fit them strictly in line with the manufacturer's certification and installation data. A certified doorset passes its test as a complete assembly. Therefore, a compliant installation gives you demonstrable, certified fire performance and a full evidence trail: the data sheet, the components and a documented, photographed installation record.

What is the difference between a fire door and a fire doorset?

A fire doorset is the complete assembly: leaf, frame, intumescent and smoke seals, hinges, self-closer and any glazing. The manufacturer tests and certificates all of it together to a fire resistance standard. People often use the term "fire door" loosely to mean just the leaf. We install complete certified doorsets, because the whole assembly working together delivers the rated fire and smoke protection.

How do you make sure a fire door installation is correct?

A fire door only performs if you install it exactly as tested. So we fit each doorset to the manufacturer's installation instructions: correct fixings, the specified leaf-to-frame gaps (typically 2–4 mm), correctly positioned intumescent and smoke seals, compliant hinges and self-closer, and the right threshold detail. Incorrect installation is one of the most common reasons fire doors fail. For that reason, we check, measure and photograph every installation.

FD30 or FD60: which fire door do I need?

FD30 doors provide 30 minutes of fire resistance and FD60 doors provide 60 minutes. Your building's fire risk assessment and the level of compartmentation it requires decide which one you need, not preference. We advise based on the FRA and the door's location and use, so you install the correct rating rather than over- or under-specifying.

Do you provide documentation and certificates for fire door installations?

Yes. Every installation comes with the doorset's data sheet and a documented, photographed record of the work. That gives the responsible person clear, certified evidence for the building's fire safety file. In other words, it is exactly the documentation a fire risk assessor, insurer or building safety case will look for.

Can you install fire doors in an occupied building?

Yes. We regularly install and replace fire doors in occupied residential blocks and commercial premises. We plan the work around access, security and the needs of residents or staff. For larger schemes, we phase and schedule the work with clear timescales, and we remove and dispose of the old doors as part of the works.

Can a replacement doorset give certified status where an old door can't?

Yes, and this is often the reason to replace. Nobody can make a nominal or notional door certified, because the test evidence for that specific assembly does not exist. A replacement doorset is a tested, certificated assembly. As a result, installing it correctly and documenting the work gives you certified status you can actually evidence.

Which areas do you cover for fire door installation?

We install fire doors across Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and the wider Dorset area, including Wimborne, Ferndown and the surrounding conurbation. We also cover Southampton and south Hampshire. Our clients include landlords, managing agents, housing associations and businesses.
