FD30 & FD60 Fire Doorsets
FD30 and FD60 fire doorsets hold back fire and smoke for 30 or 60 minutes. We supply and install them as complete, tested assemblies, and document every one.
WHAT IT IS
FD30 and FD60 fire doorsets: a complete, certified assembly
An FD30 or FD60 fire doorset is a complete, factory-tested assembly: the door leaf, the frame, the intumescent and smoke seals and the essential ironmongery, all certified to work together. The number is the fire-resistance period in minutes. An FD30 is tested to hold back fire for 30 minutes, an FD60 for 60. The important part is that the whole doorset is certified, not just the leaf. That is why a certified door only stays certified when you install and maintain it as its test evidence requires.
WHAT IT DOES
Holds the compartment line
In a fire, a certified doorset maintains the compartmentation a building’s fire strategy depends on. It keeps fire and smoke on one side long enough for people to escape and the fire service to work. FD30 doors are the most common in flats and communal areas. FD60 doors are used where the strategy calls for a longer period, such as certain stairwells, plant rooms and higher-risk compartments. Approved Document B sets out where each rating applies. Where you see an “S” (FD30S, FD60S), the door also carries a cold-smoke seal, increasingly the standard for flat entrance and communal doors.
WHY IT MATTERS
Documented performance you can evidence
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must keep fire doors in effective working order. Only a certified doorset gives you documented, demonstrable performance you can actually evidence. A door of unknown construction (a “nominal” or “notional” door) cannot be certified after the fact. Our certified, notional or nominal guide explains why, and repair or replace covers when a new doorset is the right call.
WHAT WE FIND ON INSPECTION
Where FD30 and FD60 fire doorsets fall short
Gaps out of tolerance. Edge and threshold gaps too wide (or too tight), so the door does not perform or will not close.
Modifications that void certification. Extra locks, letterplates, cat flaps or over-trimming. See what voids certification.

FAQ
Common questions
What’s the difference between FD30 and FD60?
The number is the tested fire-resistance period in minutes: 30 for FD30, 60 for FD60. FD30 is the most common in flats and communal areas. FD60 is specified where the fire strategy needs a longer period, such as some stairwells and plant rooms.
Is the whole doorset certified, or just the door leaf?
The whole assembly (leaf, frame, seals and ironmongery) is certified to work together. Swapping components or fitting it incorrectly can invalidate that certification. That is why installation to the test evidence matters.
Can an existing door be upgraded to FD30?
Components can be improved. However, a door with no test evidence cannot be made “certified” retrospectively. Where certified performance is the goal, a replacement doorset is the route to it. We will always tell you honestly which applies.
